Depuis, je n\u2019ai jamais abandonn\u00e9 ce mat\u00e9riau dont les caract\u00e9ristiques techniques ouvrent d\u2019immenses perspectives esth\u00e9tiques. L\u2019artiste Jean Sabrier, chez qui j&rsquo;ai v\u00e9cu de nombreuses ann\u00e9es, auteur notamment du \u00ab\u00a0cristal liquide\u00a0\u00bb, est la figure inaugurale de mon processus cr\u00e9atif. C&rsquo;est tr\u00e8s logiquement, plong\u00e9 dans l&rsquo;intimit\u00e9 de cet artiste, que mon attention s&rsquo;est d&rsquo;abord port\u00e9e sur la peinture de la Renaissance italienne ; Piero de la Francesca, Masaccio, Uccello\u2026 et l\u2019\u0153uvre de Marcel Duchamp. Plus tard, Caravage deviendra une source d&rsquo;inspiration qui m&rsquo;engagera vers des d\u00e9tournements anachroniques en objets (\u00ab Bacchus Malade \u00bb, \u00ab Hommelette aux \u0153ufs \u00bb), ou en installation (\u00c9rotorelief).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mon style est figuratif, mais produire une simple copie du monde ne m\u2019int\u00e9resse pas. J\u2019ai donc recours \u00e0 la ruse de la mim\u00e9sis pour repr\u00e9senter de mani\u00e8re figurative ce qui n\u2019est pas r\u00e9el et rel\u00e8ve plut\u00f4t de pens\u00e9es sous forme de visions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aujourd&rsquo;hui, mon travail est centr\u00e9 sur la question du \u00ab\u00a0Seuil\u00a0\u00bb comme lieu de l&rsquo;acte de cr\u00e9ation en tant que geste faisant lien entre le dedans et le dehors, le monde int\u00e9rieur du peintre et celui du regardeur. La question du d\u00e9voilement et celle de l&rsquo;\u00e9nigme y sont donc centrales. Pour moi, comme l\u2019a avanc\u00e9 Leon Batista Alberti (1436, De Pictura) le tableau est une fen\u00eatre, une ouverture sur le monde, un monde int\u00e9rieur aussi. J\u2019avance que l\u2019art r\u00e9tinien n\u2019est pas mort, contrairement \u00e0 ce qu\u2019a annonc\u00e9 Marcel Duchamp. Tout autant qu\u2019un ready made, Il peut \u00eatre \u00ab mati\u00e8re grise \u00bb. En convoquant sa trouvaille de \u00ab l\u2019inframince \u00bb, je reconnais ma dette envers l\u2019histoire de l\u2019art et mes influences car une cr\u00e9ation op\u00e8re, litt\u00e9ralement, en micro variations de la repr\u00e9sentation. Ces petits \u00ab\u00a0pas de sens\u00a0\u00bb sont singuliers et g\u00eetent dans un espace \u00e9troit, un seuil produisant diff\u00e9rences et r\u00e9p\u00e9titions. Il n&rsquo;est pas question de rupture mais d&rsquo;une continuit\u00e9 \u00e9volutive avec ce que j&rsquo;aime. La t\u00e9nuit\u00e9 est donc, dans mon travail de peintre, le motif \u00ab\u00a0en-soi\u00a0\u00bb de la cr\u00e9ation, une cr\u00e9ation en mouvement, mue par une pulsion de vie \u00ab tourbillonnante \u00bb. \u00c0 bien y r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir, l\u2019image, entrelac simultan\u00e9 entre \u00eatre et non \u00eatre de ce qu\u2019elle repr\u00e9sente (JC Bailly), produit \u00e9galement un effet de seuil. Affleure avec elle un espace t\u00e9nu entre le geste de l&rsquo;artiste et sa repr\u00e9sentation, entre l&rsquo;intention inconsciente (Ogni dipintore dipinge se) du peintre et le regardeur. Ce dernier est appel\u00e9 \u00e0 faire une exp\u00e9rience de l&rsquo;imperceptible en cultivant la lenteur et le retard de sa perception, une exp\u00e9rience du seuil comme repr\u00e9sentation d&rsquo;un entre-deux temporel \u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8re.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mes toiles sont d&rsquo;abord et avant tout les repr\u00e9sentations de \u00ab\u00a0visions\u00a0\u00bb et d&rsquo;un monde int\u00e9rieur qui \u00e9merge au fil de mes lectures, de mes \u00e9crits et de mes r\u00e9flexions, notamment autour de la question de l&rsquo;inconscient et de ses enjeux dans la relation \u00e0 l\u2019autre mais \u00e9galement au sein d\u2019un processus cr\u00e9atif. Il est parfois surprenant de voir \u00e9merger des images issues de pens\u00e9es complexes, qu&rsquo;elles ont l&rsquo;art de concentrer \u00e0 l&rsquo;essentiel et de simplifier. Mon travail de peintre ne peut donc faire l&rsquo;\u00e9conomie de l&rsquo;\u00e9preuve initiale des mots et du langage qui les structure. J&rsquo;accorde par ailleurs une grande importance \u00e0 l&rsquo;aspect manuel de la r\u00e9alisation picturale et me sentir comme un artisan cherchant en permanence \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer son geste me procure une grande satisfaction. Pour autant, j\u2019estime que le savoir-faire doit constituer un moyen d\u2019acc\u00e9der \u00e0 un certain oubli de soi dans l\u2019acte de cr\u00e9ation et permettant la survenue de surprises picturales impr\u00e9vues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I started painting in 1988, at the age of 15, using oil paint as my medium. Since then, I have never ceased to work with this material whose technical characteristics open up immense aesthetic perspectives. The artist Jean Sabrier, with whom I lived for many years, author among other works, of the \u00ab\u00a0Cristal liquide\u00a0\u00bb, is the inaugural figure in my creative process. Immersed in the intimacy of this artist, it is quite logical that my attention was first drawn to Italian Renaissance painting; Piero de la Francesca, Masaccio, Uccello and later the work of Marcel Duchamp. Caravaggio has also become a source of inspiration that has led me to anachronistic diversions into objects (\u00ab\u00a0Bacchus Malade\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0Hommelette aux \u0153ufs\u00a0\u00bb), or into installations (Erotorelief).<br>My style is figurative, but I am not interested in producing a simple copy of the world. I therefore use the trick of mimesis to represent figuratively what is not real and tends towards thoughts in the form of visions. It is not a matter of rupture but of an evolutionary continuity with what I like. In my work as a painter, tenuity is therefore the \u00ab\u00a0in-itself\u00a0\u00bb motif of creation, a creation in motion, driven by a \u00ab\u00a0swirling\u00a0\u00bb life drive. If we think about it, the image, a simultaneous interlace between being and non-being of what it represents (JC Bailly), also produces a threshold effect. It creates a tenuous space between the artist&rsquo;s gesture and its representation, between the unconscious intention (Ogni dipintore dipinge se) of the painter and the viewer. The latter is called upon to experience what is imperceptible by cultivating the slowness and delay of their perception, an experience of the threshold as a representation of an ephemeral temporal in-between.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, my work is centered on the question of the \u00ab\u00a0Threshold\u00a0\u00bb as the place of the act of creation as a gesture linking the inside and the outside, the inner world of the painter and that of the viewer. The question of unveiling and that of the enigma are therefore central. For me, as Leon Batista Alberti put it (1436, De Pictura), the painting is a window, an opening onto the world, an interior mode too. I argue that retinal art is not dead, contrary to what Marcel Duchamp stated. As much as a ready-made, it can be \u00ab\u00a0grey matter\u00a0\u00bb. By summoning his discovery of the \u00ab\u00a0infra-thin\u00a0\u00bb, I acknowledge my debt to the history of art and my influences because a creation operates, literally, in micro variations of representation. These small \u00ab\u00a0steps of meaning\u00a0\u00bb (\u201cpas de sens\u201d in French to be understood as both \u201cmore meaning\u201d and \u201cmeaningless\u201d) are singular and lie in a narrow space, a threshold producing differences and repetitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My paintings are first and foremost representations of \u00ab\u00a0visions\u00a0\u00bb and of an inner world that emerges from my readings, my writings and my reflections, notably around the question of the unconscious and its effects on the creative process. It is sometimes surprising to see images emerge from complex thoughts, which they seem to skillfully simplify and concentrate to the essential. My work as a painter cannot therefore do without the initial test of words and the language that structures them. I also greatly care about the manual aspect of painting and the feeling it provokes, constantly seeking to improve my gesture, like a craftsman would do.
